Sony Expands Award-Winning Line of Cellular/PCS Telephones

Company Offers Stylish and Slender Phones Featuring Cutting-Edge Technology

San Francisco, Calif. Sept. 18, 1996 - In a series of product
introductions at PCS‘96, Sony expanded its line of cellular
phones adding a PCS phone, a slender analog cellular
telephone and a data-ready version of the award winning,
pocket-sized CM-RX100 analog phone.

"Customers have shown a high demand for Sony cellular
telephones, so we are continuing to expand our offerings,"
said Satoru Yukie, director of marketing for Sony
Electronics’ Personal Mobile Communications America
Company. "The reaction from cellular carriers, the public,
and the press to the CM-RX100 and our other phones has been wonderful."

The new two-tone CM-H777 analog cellular telephone is slim enough to fit in a shirt
pocket and features Sony’s stylish design and 20-number alphanumeric memory for
ample storage of frequently called numbers.

The phone also features up to 80 minutes of continuous talk time or 20 hours of
standby time, two-line LCD display, backlit keypad and display, and dual NAMs. A
Ni-Cd battery ships with the phone and an optional Ni-Mh battery, which is the same
size as the standard battery pack, increases talk and standby time. The CM-H777 has
a suggested retail price of $349.95.

The previously announced CM-H888 analog cellular telephone has a stylish, compact
design similar to the CM-H777. The phone offers a Ni-Mh battery and provides 110
minutes of talk time or 25 hours of standby time. It also features a two-line
alphanumeric display and 99 memory locations. The CM-H888 will be available for
shipment at the end of September at a suggested retail price of $399.95.

The new CM-D600 CDMA phone supports current U.S. digital PCS transmission
standards. This phone delivers up to five hours of talk time or 48 hours of standby time,
using Sony’s Lithium Ion battery. It supports enhanced digital features such as incoming
Caller ID, Short Messaging Service and Voice Mail Waiting Alert when services are
subscribed to with the PCS carrier. A user-friendly interface uses a soft-key menu to
guide users through operation. The phone will be available in the fourth quarter of
1996.

All CM-RX100 phones manufactured after October 1, 1996 will be circuit-switched
data-capable. When used with the APEX Data PC Card Modem and appropriate
APEX cable, users will be able to use these phones for data applications. The
CM-RX100, named one of the best products of 1996 by Mobile Office, provides up
to 90 minutes of talk time and 24 hours of standby time. The CM-RX100 is available
nationwide at a suggested retail price of $499.95.

Measuring only 2 1/2-inches by 3 9/16-inches by 1 1/8-inches, Sony’s CM-RX100
analog cellular telephone is one of the world’s smallest and fits easily in a shirt-pocket
or purse for use anywhere.

Its innovative design features a microphone arm that can act as the send/end button
when placing and receiving calls; a Dial Shuttle that provides a simplified approach to
dialing and menu-driven features; green "SEND" and red "END" buttons to correspond
with expectations; buttons with words such as "CLEAR" and "SEND" rather than
abbreviations such as "CLR" and "SND"; a large and clear display which also
automatically enlarges numerals in number-only sequences.
