HP INTRODUCES PROFESSIONAL-QUALITY PERSONAL
LASER PRINTER FOR BUSINESS USERS
New HP LaserJet 6L Printers' Speed and Duty Cycle Increased by
50 Percent
Hewlett-Packard Company today introduced the HP LaserJet 6L
printer family, which combines fast, high-volume printing
performance with productivity-enhancing Internet tools tailored
for business customers. The price of the new printer, which
replaces the HP LaserJet 5L printer, is expected to start at
around $399. The speed has been increased from 4 pages per minute
(ppm) to 6 ppm and the duty cycle from 4,000 pages per month to
6,000 pages.
"The HP LaserJet 6L printer provides fast high-quality
output and the paper-handling flexibility required by today's
business user," said Cindy Greiner, product manager at HP's
Personal Laser Division. "It's the perfect personal printer,
affordable even for a single user. It is easy to install and use;
its small size fits easily into any office and it was designed
for reliability."
Speed and Duty Cycle
The LaserJet 6L printer offers a print speed of 6 ppm -- a 50
percent increase over its predecessor -- and features instant-on
fuser technology to eliminate warm-up time. The printer's
18-second first-page-out speed significantly decreases time spent
waiting for documents to begin printing. The monthly duty cycle
has been increased from 4,000 to 6,000 pages.
Flexibility
The LaserJet 6L printer is compatible with popular operating
systems, including older DOS applications and Microsoft(Windows(
3.1, 3.11, 95, NT 4.0 and OS/2 versions, with backward
compatibility to the 386 platform. The printer can be shared by
several users by attaching it to a network using any of HP's
JetDirect family of print servers. The printer comes standard
with 1MB of memory, effectively doubled with HP's Memory
Enhancement technology (MEt), and can be expanded to 9MB. In
addition, users can add copy, fax, file and read capabilities by
adding the optional LaserJet Companion printer accessory, also
announced today.
The printer's 100-page input and output trays accommodate a wide
range of media, from legal-sized paper to postcards. A
single-sheet feeder allows customers to print special media
without removing other media from the main input tray. The
straight paper path helps ensure wrinkle-free printing of
envelopes, labels, special stock and transparencies.
Professional Print Quality
The LaserJet 6L printer features true 600 x 600 dots-per-inch
(dpi) printing, plus Resolution Enhancement technology (REt) for
exceptional graphics and text. The all-in-one microfine toner
used in the LaserJet 6L printer produces rich blacks; smooth
grays; and crisp, clear text and images.
HP's LaserJet printer benefits are incorporated into the HP
LaserJet 6L printer to meet the compatibility, reliability, image
quality, speed and paper-handling needs of business users.
Bundled Software
Two versions of the printer will be available--the LaserJet 6Lse
and 6Lxi printers. The LaserJet 6Lse printer, available in U.S.
retail channels, comes with the LaserJet Internet Publishing Kit,
which includes Microsoft Network software for a free, two-month
connection to the Internet. Microsoft Internet Explorer, which
also is included, enables customers to browse the World Wide Web
and includes useful small-business bookmarks. A 60-day trial of
Microsoft Publisher 97 allows users to create their own Web
sites. Microsoft's Internet Assistants, also included, is
designed to make it easy to convert existing Office 95 documents
to HTML format for publication on the Web.
The LaserJet 6Lxi printer, available in the U.S. commercial
channel, comes with the LaserJet Internet Custom News Kit. This
kit brings Internet tools and business news to users by providing
30 free days of AT&T WorldNet Service, AT&T's value-added
Internet-access service. AT&T WorldNet Service for the
LaserJet Internet Custom News Kit lets customers take advantage
of such enhanced features as corporate bookmarks and comes with
the co-branded Netscape Navigator browser.
The HP LaserJet 6L printer comes with HP's Express Exchange
limited warranty, which covers parts and labor and ensures
next-business-day replacement of the printer for a full year.
